Discover a world of stunning beauty and breathtaking clarity with the EOS 5D Mark II. Featuring a 36mm x 24mm CMOS sensor*, this versatile EOS literally gives you the big picture, letting you take advantage of the special creative capabilities that only a full-frame sensor can offer. Experience the dynamic impact of super wide-angle lenses, or delight in the enhanced background blur of telephoto lenses. Factor in a super-high resolution of 21.1 megapixels, and the end result is wonderfully expressive photographs with a lifelike realism that is simply astonishing.   The newly designed sensor is ultra-sensitive, too, empowering you to explore creative opportunities in challenging environments thanks to a wide ISO range of 100 to 6400 at the standard setting. ISO expansion extends coverage from ISO 50 to an astounding ISO 25600. Shooting with auto ISO is also nicely responsive with a comfortable ISO range of 100 to 3200. Whether shooting outdoor scenes at night or charmingly lit interiors, you can now capture all the subtle nuances of natural lighting through the unencumbered joy of hand-held, flash-free shooting.

A large, high-resolution sensor requires powerful resources, and the EOS 5D Mark II delivers admirably with its new DIGIC 4 imaging processor. As Canon’s most advanced processor to date, DIGIC 4 transforms the massive amounts of data produced by the 21.1-megapixel CMOS sensor into beautiful photos exhibiting superb tonal gradation, extended dynamic range, and a low signal-to-noise ratio.   Its 14-bit analog/digital conversion delivers 16,384 colors compared to the 4,096 colors of 12-bit conversion, allowing you to create stunning 16-bit TIFF images from RAW 14-bit data. DIGIC 4 also enables shooting Full HD movies as well as in-camera imaging features such as lens peripheral illumination correction, Auto Lighting Optimizer, and face detection autofocus during Live View shooting

Thankfully, what you see is not always what you get, owing to the extensive array of advanced imaging features. For example, Auto Lighting Optimizer salvages muddy, underexposed images, automatically transforming them into sharp, color-rich photos. For high-key shots containing bright textured surfaces or patterns, highlight tone priority nudges the dynamic range to maximize detail in delicate highlights. And to minimize distracting noise, the EOS 5D Mark II is equipped with two noise reduction settings. High ISO speed noise reduction enhances image quality when shooting at high ISO speeds and can be applied in three different levels — Standard, Low, or Strong. Long exposure noise reduction, used for exposures of one second or longer, markedly reduces noise, making it particularly useful for night photography.   The EOS 5D Mark II also incorporates lens peripheral Illumination correction, which compensates for light falloff in lenses. This intelligent feature lets you use bundled EOS Utility software to register the optical characteristics of up to 40 Canon lenses in the camera. When shooting with a registered lens, light falloff unique to the lens can be corrected either in-camera for JPEG images, or with bundled Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software for RAW images. DPP can also correct RAW images for distortions, chromatic aberration, and color blur.

Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System is one of the industry’s most effective answers to the problem of dust. A multi-tiered solution that combines measures for preventing and eliminating dust, the system is a reliable way to keep photos virtually spotless.

It all starts with dust prevention. Canon has designed the EOS 5D Mark II to reduce the possibility of dust entering the camera while the shutter employs a material that decreases the likelihood of dust being generated. Next, when powering on, the newly re-designed Self Cleaning Sensor Unit activates automatically to shake off dust from the low-pass filter. Further protection is provided at the low-pass filter with the addition of a fluorite coating that makes it easy to remove dust particulates with a simple blower. Lastly, dust spots that mar your images can be eliminated during post-processing using the Dust Delete Function in bundled Digital Photo Professional software.
