| When the going gets fast, the EOS 50D gets going. A continuous shooting speed of up to 6.3fps for 15.1-megapixel images and bursts of up to 90-shots*1 effortlessly capture the right moment no matter how fast the action. Compatibility with UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) CF memory cards further speeds operations, vastly reducing write times for a smoother, more responsive shooting experience. |
The EOS 50D is wonderfully flexible, too, with six JPEG recording modes and three RAW modes (including sRAW1 and new sRAW2) that allow you to match image size and type according to your shooting requirements.
*1 Approximate. Based on Canon test standards using a 2GB UDMA memory card and shooting JPEG/Large images. Approximately 60 shots when using non-UDMA memory cards. The counter in the camera only displays up to 60 shots. |

| Live View shooting makes it point-and-shoot simple to take great shots while viewing through the LCD monitor. The EOS 50D expands the possibilities afforded by this shooting alternative with a variety of features, now accessible from a single menu screen. New Face-detection live mode simplifies portraits and group shots by automatically locating a face in a scene and rapidly focusing on it. If it’s not quite the face you expected, use the Multi-controller to choose another one. Two other autofocus modes, Quick mode and Live mode, extend your creative control by prioritizing either shooting or viewing, respectively. |
Framing is now easier than before thanks to two different types of grids that provide painter-like control over your compositions. You can also zoom 5x or 10x to check focus and other critical details for shots requiring close inspection. Additionally, Live View shooting is ideal for verifying exposure and depth of field, both easily determined on the crisp, 3.0-inch LCD monitor. Moreover, Remote Live View shooting lets you control the EOS 50D via a computer running bundled EOS Utility software — a nice touch for studio or still life photographers who require remote capability. |

| Your creative vision is clear, and the EOS 50D keeps it that way with fast, accurate autofocus. Configured in a diamond-shaped array for superior vertical and horizontal coverage, nine cross-type autofocus (AF) points — eight with f/5.6 sensitivity and one in the center with f/2.8 sensitivity — provide highly precise focus even when shooting fast moving subjects. AF points can be assigned automatically using one of three different modes or manually — the ideal solution for situations where the subject is not centered in the viewfinder. |
Additionally, in order to assure more consistent results throughout a wide range of shooting environments, the EOS 50D automatically corrects for shifts in the focus point caused by different light sources. You can also minutely adjust autofocus performance to fit a particular lens via the AF Microadjustment setting in the Custom Functions. |
