This firmware update (version 1.2.6) includes the following improvements:
  • Fix the phenomenon wherein the camera does not detect the capacity correctly when high-capacity recording media are initialized.

 

This firmware update applies to cameras with firmware version up to 1.2.4 installed. If your camera's firmware is already version 1.2.6, it is not necessary to perform this update.

Q : What has changed in the version 1.2.6 firmware?

A : It includes the following improvements:

It fixes the phenomenon wherein the camera does not detect the capacity correctly when high-capacity recording media are initialized.  

    a) SDHC cards with capacities exceeding 2GB (e.g., 4GB, 8GB) are now supported.
    b) The phenomenon wherein the camera cannot correctly detect the capacity of CF cards with capacities exceeding 8GB (e.g., 12GB, 16GB) correctly when they are initialized has been corrected.

Q : Are the previous version of firmware included in version 1.2.6?

A : Yes, the following improvements from the previous version are included:

Version 1.0.2 changes:

  1. Fixes the issue of the screen becoming magenta-colored when shooting bulb exposures.
  2. Fixes the issue of the values being cleared when C.Fn-06 is set to "2" and the battery is removed.
  3. Improves image quality of NTSC video output.

Version 1.0.3 changes:

  1. Added new functions for communicating with the Speedlite 580EX.
  2. Reduced noise when shooting bulb exposures.
  3. Fixed sensor-cleaning operations.

Version 1.1.0 changes:

  1. Improvements to AF tracking in AI Servo AF.
Improves the AF tracking when using the AI Servo AF to shoot low-luminance or low-contrast subjects.
  1. Reduced the time between when the camera is turned on and when it is ready to shoot.
Reduced the time between when the camera is turned on and when it is ready to shoot from 0.5 seconds to 0.3 seconds.
  1. Support added for the wireless file transmitter WFT-E1.

Version 1.2.1 changes:

  1. Three new languages (Russian, Traditional Chinese, and Korean) added to the camera menus.
  2. Improvement in communication reliability when using some CF cards.
  3. The issue of communication failure between the camera and some personal computers has been fixed.

Version 1.2.2 changes:

  1. When pressing the DISPLAY button immediately after shooting, the LCD monitor would turn completely white, the camera would hang, and the images in the buffer memory would be lost. Countermeasures for this issue have been incorporated into this update.
  2. Errata in the German and Russian language displays have been corrected.

Version 1.2.3 changes:

  1. With the version 1.2.2 firmware, in extremely rare cases, pressing the DISPLAY button right after shooting images resulted in an abnormal display and the camera would freeze. Images are not lost when this occurs. Also, removing and then reloading the battery restores the camera to normal operation. This version 1.2.3 firmware incorporates fixes for the issue described above.

Version 1.2.4 changes:

  1. Fixes the phenomenon of file numbers not being sequential even if the file number setting is for sequential numbers if a CF card is replaced while the power of the camera is switched on.
  1. Improves reliability in communication when using some CF cards.

 

Q : How do I check the version of the camera's current firmware?

A : Press the MENU button and hold it down while rotating the Quick Control Dial to the Set-up 2 menu. The current firmware version will be displayed in the Firmware section of that menu.

 

Q : How do I update the EOS-1D Mark II firmware?

A : The methods of firmware updating are provided as below :
  • Download the firmware file from this Web site and conduct the updating as shown in the updating procedure.
  • Bring the camera to a Canon Service Center and have the firmware updated there.

If you choose the latter method, contact a Canon Service Center listed on the back of the Camera User's Guide enclosed with the camera.

 

Q : Do I need any special equipment to update the EOS-1D Mark II firmware?

A : The following equipment is necessary to update the EOS-1D Mark II firmware :

1-a) Ni-MH pack NP-E3 (The battery pack must be fully charged.)
1-b) DC Coupler kit DCK-E1
2) CF card or SD card (8MB or more, 2GB or less)

In order to supply power to the camera, 1-a or 1-b is necessary.

 

Q : What if I do not have the equipment necessary for updating the firmware?

A : Please contact a Canon Service Center listed on the back of the Camera User's Guide enclosed with the camera.

A : The file for updating the firmware can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.

Select the compressed, self-extracting file appropriate for your OS and double-click to extract.

After completing the download and extraction, confirm that the following files have been generated :

Q : How do I update the firmware?

A : It can be updated by copying the downloaded file to an initialized (formatted) CF card (SD card) by the EOS-1D Mark II, and then loading the card in the camera. Please refer to the PDF file at the end of this page for more details.

Please note the following when updating:

  • Do not turn off the main switch of the camera during the firmware updating process. When using household AC power supply, be careful of power failure.
  • Also, do not open the memory card slot cover or press any button, dial, or switch. If the camera's power supply is interrupted during during firmware updating, the firmware may not load properly and the camera may require repairs before it can be used again.

7. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS NOTICE: The Software is a "commercial item," as that term is defined at 48 C.F.R. 2.101 (Oct 1995), consisting of "commercial computer software" and "commercial computer software documentation," as such terms are used in 48 C.F.R. 12.212 (Sept 1995). Consistent with 48 C.F.R. 12.212 and 48 C.F.R. 227.7202-1 through 227.72024 (June 1995), all U.S. Government End Users shall acquire the Software with only those rights set forth herein. Manufacturer is Canon Inc./30-2, Shimomaruko 3-chome, Ohta-ku, Tokyo 146-8501, Japan.

8. SEVERABILITY: In the event that any provision of this Agreement is declared or found to be illegal by any court or tribunal of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be null and void with respect to the jurisdiction of that court or tribunal and all the remaining provisions of this Agreement shall remain in full force and effect.

9. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: BY CLICKING "submit" AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE, YOU SHALL BE DEEMED TO HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS AGREEMENT, UNDERSTOOD IT, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
