Firmware Update

The following content is to help you update the firmware yourself. If errors occur when performing the firmware update, there are instances where the camera cannot be started; therefore, please read the precautionary notes carefully before starting the firmware update.

In addition, this firmware update can also be performed at a Canon service center. If you wish to have Canon perform the firmware updates, please contact a local Canon service center near you.

Firmware Update (Version 1.0.1.0)

Fixes a phenomenon in which the audio and video get recorded out of sync when shooting movies with the image quality set to high definition (1280×720 pixels).

  • This phenomenon occurs gradually from the start of recording and becomes more noticeable as the recording time gets longer.
    * The longest HD movies this model can record at one time are approximately 10 minutes in length.
  • This phenomenon occurs only when the image quality is set to HD; it does not occur in other settings (640×480 pixels or 320×240 pixels).

How to Identify Cameras that require this Firmware Update

This firmware update is for products with the following serial numbers. The serial number is indicated on the bottom of the camera.

Products with "0" in the sixth digit from the left

*****0******

However, some affected cameras with "0" as the sixth digit from the left in the serial number have already been updated at the factory, AND DO NOT REQUIRE FURTHER UPDATING. They can be used as-is. These updated cameras have been marked, as shown below.

Also, products with the number "1" or higher in the sixth digit from the left in the serial number already have the updated firmware; so this update does not apply to those products (this phenomenon will not occur).
