EOS 10D Firmware Update Version 2.0.1

Firmware specification changes

This Firmware update (Version 2.0.1) incorporates the following changes:

  • Correction of the LCD monitor display in firmware version 2.0.0

This firmware update applies to cameras with firmware versions 1.0.0, 1.0.1, or 2.0.0. It is not necessary to perform this update on cameras that already have version 2.0.1 firmware.

Note:
When updating the camera's firmware from version 1.0.x to 2.0.1, all of the camera's settings will revert to the values they had at the time of purchase. As a result, C.Fn (Custom Function) and related settings will be cleared, so it is recommended to take note of these settings before performing the update. Once the update to version 2.0.1 is complete, each of these settings will need to be set back to the desired values. Also, the sequential numbering of image files is reset by this firmware update. Users who have their cameras set to use sequential numbering will need to be careful when transferring files to their computers, because there is risk that post-update file names may be the same as ones created before the update, in which case the older files could be overwritten when the new ones are imported. It is possible, however, to continue shooting from the previous sequential numbering after the update to version 2.0.1 if there are images remaining on the last CF card used for shooting and that same card is used to continue shooting.
*The settings are not reset when updating the firmware from version 2.0.0 to 2.0.1.

Please read this page in its entirety before making use of the download service.

  1. Insert the CF card into the EOS 10D, and connect it to the PC with Interface Cable IFC-300PCU.
  2. Double-click the "UploadFirmware*" in the decompressed folder, and follow the instructions so that the "10D00201.fir" file can be copied onto the CF card in the EOS 10D.

When you attempt to transfer the data to the CF card in the EOS 10D with the "UploadFirmware*" program, do not open the CF card slot cover, turn the Main Switch or turn the power off until the data transfer is completed. Any of the above operations during data transfer will disable the firmware update.

If the current firmware version is 2.0.0, the communication setting must be set to "NORMAL" before performing the update. Please see the PDF file "PTP Instruction" for details.

* Macintosh version of UploadFirmware requires Mac OS 9.0 to 9.2.

(2) Insert the CF card with the firmware into the camera and turn the Main Switch on.

The following message will appear on the LCD after the firmware update program activates.

When using the "UploadFirmware" utility, please be sure that data transfer is completed. Next step, open and close the CF card slot cover. Then, the firmware update program starts and the following message will appear on the LCD.

Do not press the shutter button during this step. Checking firmware will be cancelled by pressing the shutter button.

After checking the current firmware, both the current and the replaced versions will be displayed on the LCD as follows.

(4) Execute the firmware update after confirming the version to be installed, by selecting [OK] with Quick Control dial and pressing the "SET" button.

If you select [Cancel] and press the "SET" button, the firmware update is cancelled.

The following message will appear during firmware updating.

The update will take approximately 4 minutes.
